WHAT IS CHAIR MASSAGE

Chair massage is a seated massage modality designed to make bodywork more accessible, comfortable, and supportive for clients who may not be able to comfortably lie face down, lie flat, lean forward, or get on and off a massage table.

Performed while seated in a specialized massage chair, this modality allows the body to remain upright and supported while still receiving intentional, therapeutic touch. It can be a helpful option for clients navigating certain medical conditions, mobility limitations, pregnancy considerations, injury recovery, or general discomfort with traditional table massage positioning.

Chair massage is especially suited for focused work on the neck, shoulders, upper back, arms, and hands, though each session can be adapted based on your needs and comfort.

Your therapist will use thoughtful, focused techniques to help relieve tension, support circulation, and create a sense of ease in the body.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your session will begin with a brief check-in so your therapist can understand what you’re experiencing, what areas need support, and what positions feel comfortable or uncomfortable for your body.

You’ll remain clothed and seated throughout the massage. Your therapist will help you settle into the chair in a way that feels supported, then use massage techniques based on your needs, often focusing on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands.

Chair massage can be calming, restorative, and highly effective, especially for clients who need a more accessible approach to bodywork.

As always, you are encouraged to communicate throughout the session. You can ask for adjustments in pressure, positioning, temperature, or focus at any time.

BENEFITS

Here are just a few of the ways Chair Massage can support your physical and emotional health.

Physical Benefits:

Accessible Positioning

Chair massage allows you to receive bodywork while seated, making it a supportive option for those who may not be able to comfortably lie down, lean forward, or get on and off a massage table.

Upper Body Tension Relief

This modality can help ease tension in the neck, shoulders, upper back, arms, and hands.

Circulation Support

Massage techniques may help support healthy circulation and encourage the body to soften areas of held tension.

Mobility-Friendly Care

For clients navigating medical concerns, mobility limitations, injury recovery, or physical discomfort, chair massage offers a more adaptable way to receive therapeutic touch.

Posture Support

Focused work through the upper body may help relieve strain caused by prolonged sitting, stress, or guarded posture.

Mental and Emotional Benefits:

A Sense of Safety

Remaining seated and clothed may help clients feel more comfortable, supported, and at ease throughout the session.

Nervous System Support

Chair massage can help calm the body’s stress response and create a grounded sense of relaxation.

Approachable Bodywork

This modality may feel like a more accessible starting point for those who are new to massage or unsure about traditional table massage.

Comfort Without Pressure

Chair massage gives clients another way to receive care without needing to lie flat, fully undress, or stay in a position that does not feel right for their body.

Restorative Reset

Even in a seated position, chair massage can offer meaningful relief, helping the body and mind feel more settled.
